From My Homeland
25 May 2023
QPAC Concert Hall, South Bank
Presented by Camerata, evocative Australian music takes centre stage with ARIA Award-nominated didgeridoo virtuoso William Barton and captivating violinist Veronique Serret. This performance for chamber orchestra will conjure vivid Australian soundscapes and the universal stories and experiences that we tie to our homeland.
Camerata will intertwine works from esteemed Australian composers Margaret Sutherland, Frederick Septimus Kelly, Brenda Gifford, Cameron Patrick, and William Barton and Véronique Serret, in an expressive and heartfelt performance for chamber orchestra. From the sorrowful melodies in Kelly’s Elegy in Memoriam Rupert Brook, the syncopated, step-like rhythms of Gifford’s Bardju (Footprints) to the colourful yet brooding Lines of the Southern Cross (Patrick), this performance explores the full breadth of emotion. Special guests Barton and Serret will present a brand-new version of their work Bushfire Requiem for chamber orchestra, and Camerata will also commemorate 10 years as company in residence at QPAC at this performance.
Camerata will also perform From My Homeland at Empire Theatres, Toowoomba on 26 May 2023
