Queensland Cabaret Festival 2023 (Cabfest ’23) asks you to take one step beyond, into the intimate sphere of the brilliant, the bright, the beautiful, and the bewildering. Theatre and music collide in this playful, shared space where individuality and uniqueness are celebrated through story and song.
Leave your comfort zone and step into a world of live music, storytelling, and inspiration:
- Award-winning cabaret artist Karen Lee-Roberts will discuss Sex & Other Philosophies in her newly devised “contemporary trash cabaret”, which will also feature Lucinda Shaw and James Halloran.
- Ruth Gardner will deliver Nothing But The Ruth, a one-night-only joyride to a destination unknown for thrill-seeking adults who like to laugh with love.
- Aria, Logie & Helpmann Award winner Jonathon Welch AM will make his Brisbane debut, paying tribute to the music and life of legendary comedian and tenor Harry Secombe with I’m Just Wild About Harry.
- Musical theatre talent and comedic cabaret artist Queenie van de Zandt will take to the stage in her brand-new show Choose Your Own Adventure which is part cabaret, part pub quiz, part TED Talk.
- Enjoy a variety night of fun and frivolity with Brisbaret.
- Daryl Murphy and his cast of crazed characters come to the New Benner Theatre in his one-man show, May Contain Traces of Nuts.
- Shadowy songstress Sarah Stockholm invites you to descend into her mad world in After Dark.
- Gracing stages in Australia and abroad for over 25 years, with 5 studio albums and 2 EPs, Kristy Apps will share her Story So Far, playing songs off every album, sharing stories, unreleased works and even some of her favourite covers.
- Spanish electro-acoustic troubadour Sanfeliu will perform his Loco Love Songs.
- Josh Daveta and the Sequins return by popular demand with their retro and romantic take on modern pop with the critically acclaimed, My Funny Valentine.
- Megan Cooper will answer life’s biggest questions by asking What Would Dolly Do?, her self penned paean to Ms Parton.
- Tyrone Noonan pays his respects to Marvin Gaye, joined by 7-piece jazz/Latin/soul band Palimpsest, in What’s Going On, celebrating one of the greatest albums of all time.
- Fun on the Autobahn with Kraftwerk ReKrafted an all-acoustic homage to the pioneers of electro pop featuring Alison St Ledger on vocals.
- Journey into the darker reaches of the human soul and a side show of the spirit with Silver Sircus.
- Leah Cotterell will be joined by Brisbane jazz musicians to share her love of great pop songs in Leah Hearts Pop.
- Cabfest ’23 will close with a concert by three-time Queensland Music Award winners MZAZA, with their mix of Balkan-French inspired sounds and ecstatic delivery.
