Shop Local – Things for your home

In these tough times, most of us are spending a lot (A LOT) more time at home than we normally would, working from home and self-isolating, trying to strike a balance and find a new normal. The Brisbane creatives listed below make beautiful things for your home – I personally enjoy collecting and purchasing things (fashion and accessories as well as books and prints and other homewares) that make me feel happy whenever I see/use them, and I’m sure you’ll find some of that good feeling in the work of these talented and lovely people.

Bonnie Hislop

A Brisbane-based creative with a focus on ceramics, Bonnie creates functional works of art which are meticulously hand built and painted with bright colours and intricate line detail – I’m a bit in love with her beautiful cat mugs and Iced Vovo platters, and you can pre-order a kit to paint your own through her online store! You can purchase Pet Portrait Earring Home Painting Kits as well.

2 Little Houses

Houses for your home! Laura from 2 Little Houses illustrates homes in black and white with beautiful clean line work. I have a few of her pieces sitting pretty in my own home, and my family has commissioned artwork of my grandmother’s home for her 60th birthday, and of my sister’s favourite café on campus. She’s also got a mother’s day special running at the moment if you’re looking for a special gift – and she can gift wrap and post direct, no in-person contact required!

Papadore

I purchased a lovely lil’ wombat print from Papadore and I smile every time I look at it. Artist Alison is currently closed for custom pet portraits and commissions, but her Etsy store is full of beautiful art prints and greeting cards featuring watercolour and coloured pencil animals in stunning detail.

McKenzie House

Bright and vibrant, McKenzie House’s handmade, hand painted canvas bags are made in Brisbane and inspired by the indoor-outdoor Australian family lifestyle. McKenzie House canvas bags are available in a range of colour palettes and three sizes, and can be used as plant holders, or for accessories, office stationery, nursery items, or other household items.

Paxxy and Flora

Every Paxxy and Flora item is hand moulded and glazed by owner and creator Cas Thompson, inspired by a love of pink, flowers, and a desire to bring beauty and joy to the everyday. Her range includes unique vases for flower lovers, trinket plates for jewellery collectors, pots for plant people and kitchenware for foodies, with the intention of creating art to complement your favourite things.

Debra Hood Art

Brisbane artist Debra Hood has a range of great gift items featuring houses in her signature colourful style, including a jigsaw puzzle, prints, fridge magnets, a colouring book, and more.
