
‘Director’s Choice’ Exhibition

Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley begins its 2020 gallery exhibition calendar year with the personally curated exhibition ‘Director’s Choice’.
Gallery Director Mike Mitchell has selected artworks from the galleries collection featuring a mix of Australian contemporary and Aboriginal art. The exhibition showcases the gallery’s diverse stockroom and highlights artists that will be exhibited in 2020.
There are artworks by newly invited artists Idris Murphy, one of Australia’s leading contemporary landscape painters, and Matthew Cheyne, an emerging Queensland artist. Paintings shortlisted for notable art prizes including the Tattersall’s Art Prize and the Brisbane Portrait Prize also feature in this opening exhibition, including Peter Hudson’s eye-catching painting ‘The Passage’ and Steve Lopes portrait of Warren Ellis. This exhibition features some of the finest examples of the work of Carlos Barrios, Dorothy Napangardi, Gertie Huddleston, Kudditji Kngwarreye, Steve Lopes and Makinti Napanangka amongst others.
Official opening celebrations will be held at the gallery on Saturday 15th February from 2pm. Join Mike Mitchell, Gallery Director for an in-conversation event with artists Carlos Barrios, David Hayes, Peter Hudson and Matthew Cheyne.
The gallery is open 6 days a week from Monday to Friday 10am to 5.30pm and Saturday 10am until 5pm, with onsite parking available.
