Prepare your tastebuds and put on your elastic-waisted pants – Festitalia 2017 is coming! Queensland’s only official Italian Festival returns to Newmarket on October 8 for a day of Italian food, culture, and entertainment.
An incredible range of food will be available on the day, from gnocchi to espresso, calamari to cannoli. Speaking of cannoli, you can also enter the cannoli-eating competition! Or gelato-eating competition, since summer has apparently hit Brisbane a few months early.
We were treated to a little sneak peek at A Taste of Festitalia earlier this week, and it seems there are some delicious good times in store! The Treasury Casino Courtyard became a little slice of Italy for the evening, including a display from the talented Brisbane Tarantella Dancers who will be performing at Festitalia.

Other entertainment highlights for 2017 include the famous Gruppo Storico Fivizzano Flag Throwers – coming all the way from Montechiaro in Italy! – and the Prima Spada sword artists. Musicians, singers and roaming Commedia Dell’Arte characters (a throwback to my Grade Eleven drama studies!) will also perform throughout the day.
