In a seaside town called Rosmersholm, two ideologically opposed newspapers fight for the soul of one man.
Written over a hundred years ago, Henrik Ibsen’s Rosmersholm prophesies a world of clashing echo chambers manipulated by the powers of new media.
This September, Ibsen’s masterpiece comes to life in the neo-gothic Albert Street Uniting Church. Scored by the enchanting sounds of the pipe organ, this epic battle between sacred tradition and secular freedom promises to grant audiences new eyes for the modern condition.
Last seen in La Boite and STC’s The Poison of Poison Polygamy, four-time Matilda Award-nominated actor Silvan Rus returns to the stage with a directorial debut not to be missed. After three years of completing a PhD in Philosophy, Rus founded SEERCRAFT to create a new phase in the Brisbane theatre scene.
“I started SEERCRAFT to combine my trades in theatre and philosophy. I think the ancient crafts of cultivated wisdom have the potential to transform theatre as a sometime want into an essential need. We live in complex times and have complex needs. Whether we artists are up for the task is the question.”
Rus leads a formidable cast in this production. Indie crowd-favourite Dudley Powell takes on the titular Johannes Rosmer, joined by Matilda Award-winning Meg Bowden as the enigmatic Rebecca West. The cast is rounded out by Brisbane masters Robert H. Wainwright and Alexis Beebe.
