The Music Man

With music and lyrics by Meredith Willson, The Music Man has been entertaining audiences for decades, winning multiple Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Revival of a Musical – and this September and October, Savoyards Musical Comedy Society is presenting a fully staged production, including a live 20-piece orchestra, at the Iona Performing Arts Center for a limited season.

Savoyards first produced The Music Man in 1983, touring it through Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Northern NSW theatres, and four members of the 1983 cast are also in the 2023 production!

Set in 1912, The Music Man follows fast-talking travelling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organise despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.
