The Turquoise Elephant
2 – 11 June 2023
Studio1, 190 Station Road, Yeerongpilly
Observatory Theatre will open their 2023 season with the outrageous black comedy The Turquoise Elephant by award-winning Brisbane playwright Stephen Carleton, exploring the absurd delays on global climate change through fast-paced theatre and dark humour.
Directed by Observatory Theatre’s Founder and Creative Producer Lachlan Driscoll, this production of The Turquoise Elephant stars well-known Brisbane performers Amanda McErlean (The Curators) and Rebecca Day (Robert The Cat, Metro Arts) as Olympia and Basra Macquarie, members of a prestigious family who are confronted with the reality of the world outside their triple-glazed windows.
“This play tells us that delaying action on climate change is not only ridiculous but incredibly dangerous too”, said Driscoll. “How much longer can we downplay and scoot around these issues to avoid responsibility for our actions?”
In line with the play’s climate-conscious subject, Observatory Theatre is fundraising for the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) and the performance on Saturday 10 June will double as a ‘Giving Night’, featuring speeches and the opportunity to donate.
