Based on the classic Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, the musical Oliver! is a story about holding onto hope in the darkest of times. The Tony Award winning show was one of the few musicals to win an Academy Award for Best Picture (1968) and the Savoyards production will feature over fifty performers dancing and singing, supported by a full, live orchestra.
“This production will be dark, gritty, dramatic and thoroughly entertaining. It’s a classic, reimagined,” said the production’s director, David Harrison.
Oliver! tells the story of the young orphan, Oliver, and his struggles against the, often at times, cruel world within which he lives. Born in a workhouse and sold into apprenticeship with an undertaker, Oliver escapes and makes his way to London, where he finds himself accepted by a bunch of thieves and pickpockets, led by the elderly Fagin. However, not everyone is suited to a life of crime, and Oliver soon discovers leaving Fagin’s gang and starting anew won’t be so easy.
