QSO Favourites
1:30pm & 7:30pm, 12 February 2022
Concert Hall QPAC
Queensland Symphony Orchestra will begin 2022 with QSO Favourites, a concert of favourites as requested by fans and musicians, including a world premiere from one of the orchestra’s own. The concert has been curated by and for Queenslanders to celebrate 75 years of music making by the state’s Orchestra.
Featuring masterpieces of the classical era, such as Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 and Holst’s The Planets, through to popular movie music like Star Wars, QSO Favourites will also premiere Fanfare, a new work from composer and QSO cellist Craig Allister Young, to celebrate the Orchestra’s 75th birthday.
Craig Allister Young said it was an honour to be asked to compose a work for the anniversary.
“I’ve been orchestrating and composing music for QSO for the past 30 years so this feels like a pinnacle to a long history of working with this amazing orchestra,” he said. “I decided a big brassy fanfare was the obvious choice for such a celebration but couldn’t help including a beautiful slow section featuring the cellos and solos for horn and oboe in the middle. I will never get sick of hearing something I’ve created played by exceptional musicians and when they’re your closest colleagues and friends it makes it all the more special.”
QSO Favourites will also be livestreamed to a number of regional locations including Proserpine, Gatton, Toowoomba, Longreach, Ilfracombe, Isisford, Quilpie and Parramatta.
