Following their spectacular sell-out seasons of Les Miserables and Chicago last year, Savoyards begin their 2019 season with Rogers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!

A classic American musical, Oklahoma! has won multiple international awards, including a Pulitzer, Tony’s and Academy award. It has also been made into a film and enjoys award winning revival productions, making it an audience favourite suitable for the whole family.

This will be Savoyards’ fifth production of Oklahoma! having previously produced this in 1967, 1975, 1989 and 2005! Artistic Director Robbie Parkin is excited to bring this classic to the stage.

“After working with Savoyards’ amazing team last year on Les Misérables, I could not wait to direct a show for them again. Roger and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! is an absolute classic,” he said. “The creative team and I are so looking forward to working on Oklahoma! this year and plan to approach it with the freshness of a 21st century viewpoint, while keeping true to the timeless nature of this musical theatre classic – and of course have a lot of fun on the way doing it.”

Set in the 1900’s, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colourful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story.

Featuring a cast of 42 talented Brisbane performers, a live orchestra, and performed in the luxurious surroundings of the Iona Performing Arts Centre in the beautiful Brisbane bayside, this production is a feast for the eyes and ears.
