Season 2018 launch – Queensland Symphony Orchestra

Queensland Symphony Orchestra has launched their 2018 season, and invites you to let yourself go – to explore a world of beautiful music and experience something new.
Music Director Alondra de la Parra spoke passionately about the new season and the ways in which QSO will be breaking new ground while still enjoying old favourites. She described the season as “old and new, intertwined and conversing,” and encouraged subscribers to “try something different next year.”
De la Parra also excitedly described WAVE, a contemporary series of concerts which will be held at the Brisbane Powerhouse, describing it as “Something different…the outside of the box, the fresh, the contrasting. This is about pushing the boundaries and experimenting.”
The 2018 season will comprise ten concerts in the Maestroseries; five Morning Masterworks; two performances in the Choral series; five concerts in the Chamber series; five Music on Sundays performances, and a range of special events, including celebrating 100 years of Leonard Bernstein on the day of his one hundredth birthday, and Alondra de la Parra conducting Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with mezzo soprano Lilli Paasikivi.
The season includes guest soloists and conductors from fifteen different countries, two world premieres of new works, and at least ten QSO debuts. At the season launch, subscribers and guests were treated to a performance by guest soprano soloist Morgan England-Jones, who will join QSO for Faure Requiem in April. Acclaimed pianist Sergio Tiempo was also announced as the orchestra’s Artist in Residence for 2018, and will perform with them several times throughout the season.

Subscriber bookings for 2018 open at 9am today, August 16, and tickets to all of the concerts in the upcoming season will go on sale at 9am on October 30. Save the date, music lovers!
