What’s On: Lucille MacKellar Has Boy Problems (Lucille MacKellar & Melt Festival)

Lucille MacKellar Has Boy Problems

6-7 November 2025

Good Chat Comedy Club, Petrie Terrace

Lucille dreams of having a boyfriend, but despite her beauty and charm, can’t seem to find one. The problem can’t be her, right? There must be something else going on…

Lucille MacKellar Has Boy Problems is not your typical coming out story. Lucille’s simple tale of realising she’s a lesbian quickly turns south after an innocent trip to a Charli XCX concert, where she is propelled down a rabbit hole that leaves her wondering whether knowing your identity even matters in a world plagued by algorithms, evil gay men and Chat GPT. Arming herself with hyper-specific pop culture knowledge, a powerpoint presentation and glasses with no lenses in them, Lucille attempts to figure out what this all means for the future of humanity, one over-analysed piece of media at a time.

Part stand-up, part one-woman play, part TEDx Talk, MacKellar’s unique take on gay culture (and culture at large) leaves no proverbial stone unturned. Lucille MacKellar Has Boy Problems will not only leave you wondering which gay celebrities are friend or foe, but also adding the book ‘Technofeudalism: What Killed Capitalism’ by Yanis Varoufakis to your reading list.

After a sold-out run at the 2024 Sydney Fringe Festival, in 2025 Lucille MacKellar Has Boy Problems toured Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival, Newcastle Fringe and Adelaide Fringe, where it was nominated for the Take A Chance On Adelaide Award. Lucille MacKellar Has Boy Problems is directed by Naarm/Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist Ari Angkasa.
