Dead Puppet Society Fabrication Workshop, 6 Annerley Rd, Woolloongabba
Pop the champagne and unleash your inner creative at Dead Puppet Society’s Sculptures & Sips workshops. As well as creating and taking home an original handmade treasure (no experience needed!), these workshops are a chance to meet like-minded makers and work with DPS artisans in the Fabrication Workshop where they dream up, design, and make the puppets and props you see in their productions.

Observe the components of your creation being cut out on the laser cutter, seeing first-hand how laser-cutting technologies are used to build the puppets and props for stage productions. Under the guidance of Dead Puppet Society’s artisans, you will assemble your sculpture and construct the mechanism to make it move. Gain an insight into the basic principles of puppet design, and the magic and mechanisms that bring them to life.
There are three workshops currently on offer, each creating a unique mechanical sculpture:
Mechanical Reef
Customise and design your seascape and bring it to life with different specimens of coral and laser-cut fish, inspired by the Damselfish (the same fish that inspired the designs of the starstuff fish you can see on stage in Peter and the Starcatcher). Choose elements of your coral reef landscape and fish, paint your seascape with inks colour-matched to species native to the Great Barrier Reef, assemble your coral reef landscape inside a glass dome, and construct the mechanism to make it move.

Flapping Butterfly
Inspired by the iconic Queensland butterfly species that bring beauty and colour to our ecosystems – Queensland’s tourism icon the Ulysses Butterfly, the Australian Red Lacewing, and the Cairns Birdwing. Participants can mix-and-match the aesthetic elements of their butterfly to create a unique mechanical masterpiece.
Festive Feathers
Inspired by the colour and beauty of native Australian birds that flash their festive feathers year-round. Choose the colour of your bird’s body and wings, craft the miniscule mechanism that will bring your bird to life, and assemble your feathered friend inside a dome case.

Tickets include all required materials and bar service for guests 18+. This event is designed for guests 12+ and guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied an adult or legal guardian. Gift vouchers for workshops are also available.
