Transport yourself to the moors of Yorkshire with The Secret Garden a Tony Award-winning musical that weaves a tale of hope, healing, and the transformative power of love and nature.
Local Matilda Award-winning company Passion Productions is bringing the acclaimed musical back to Brisbane for a special anniversary season, thirty years after its Australian debut lit up the stage with stars like Anthony Warlow, Philip Quast, Marina Prior, and Raelee Hill – but this time with more local feel.
Follow young Mary Lennox, recently orphaned and sent to live with her reclusive uncle in a mysterious manor. Amidst hidden secrets and lingering sorrows, Mary discovers a neglected garden and, with the help of newfound friends, breathes life back into it. As the garden flourishes, so do the hearts of those around her, unveiling a story of rejuvenation and the enduring human spirit.

At the helm of this production is Connor Clarke, whose vision for the show is to break through people’s expectations of musical theatre and let the emotional core of the story shine. “I want to bring the humanity of the characters to the forefront,” he says. “At its heart, this is a story about a family healing and growing together. I want people to forget they’re watching musical theatre and fully connect with the story.”
The production features performers from across generations, including a mother-daughter duo in the ensemble. Connor continues, “Seeing families, young and old, professionals and emerging artists, from all over Brisbane and all in one room creating this beautiful story — that’s the heart of community theatre.”
“I think it’s important for our local community to remember that Brisbane has always done great things,” Connor adds. “We’re often seen as the creative ‘younger sibling’ of Sydney and Melbourne, but Brisbane has had its fair share of magical moments — and I believe this is one of them.”
