She Works Hard For (No) Money
24 July – 2 August 2025
‘The Precinct’, TC Beirne Building, 315 Brunswick St. Mall, Fortitude Valley
Grab your rubber gloves and a bottle of chardonnay — Samantha Hill’s new comedy She Works Hard For (No) Money, presented as part of Anywhere Festival 2025, promises to serve up a series of riotous, razor-sharp vignettes that skewer the cult of the domestic goddess and the absurdity of unpaid labour.
Through sketches, storytelling, and a healthy dose of dark humour, She Works Hard For (No) Money delivers a painfully relatable commentary on the invisible workload women still carry at home AND in the workplace — and the cultural systems that keep it all in place.
This whip-smart, laugh-out-loud show explores the untold story of invisible labour — from the tyranny of working your 9-5 while also project managing your own household, to the mysterious phenomenon of male weaponised incompetence (the art of pretending not to know, so you don’t have to do the job). It’s a theatrical deep-clean of the mental load carried by women everywhere. Expect laughs, tears, and maybe a few cleaning tips — but don’t expect anyone else to book the babysitter.
“It’s for anyone who’s ever coordinated a week’s worth of family meals, appointments, play dates and after-school activities… while someone else ‘rested their eyes’ on the couch,” said Hill.
