What’s On: Ode to Women: A Peace Play (The Curators’ Theatre)

Ode to Women: A Peace Play

21 February – 15 March 2025

‘The Barney’, 28 St Barnabas Place, Red Hill

We are in “the Bright Inside”. Flowers bloom next to war. Laughter happens, no matter what is happening in the world. Hope flickers in the corner of Pandora’s box. The play is located both now and in the aftermath of Troy: a reaction to Euripides’ famous Women of Troy – the first ever Peace Play. As we try to move forward, to cast a new light in the world, can we create a world of peace? Or are we all suffering from Post Dramatic Troy Disorder – intergenerational trauma passed down through time since the very first wars?

Titsiana von Bumpen-Shparkel (our fallen Angel of the Century of God) curates an anti-violence cabaret of story and performance with the help of her offsiders WooWoo (the poetess) and WoW (the torch singer). In this contemporary pro-peace play, the Trojan stories of Hecuba, Cassandra, Andromache and Polyxena take centre stage.

Play 1 of Post Dramatic Troy Disorder – a boldly revisioned cycle of 3 classic, Greek plays – Ode to Women is written and directed by Michael Beh, after Euripides and Charles Mee’s Remaking Project.

Please note that this show is for mature audiences. There is the use of strong, comic sexualised language and the verbal depiction of violent events and war imagery.
