31 October – 8 November 2024 (8pm – 9pm)

128 Boundary St, West End

Presented by Scratch Arts and performed by award-winning artist Timothy Christopher Ryan as part of Melt Festival, Creative Juices is an interactive art workshop-comedy hybrid and an invitation for adults to embrace their inner child and get messy with creativity. Think of those beloved kids’ art shows from the 90s—like Art Attack—but with a mind-bending, playfully-chaotic twist.

Timothy, who has a background in circus and comedy, blends his creative talents to turn a live performance into a playground for the imagination. Instead of just watching, the audience is handed the tools—literally. With art supplies at the ready, audience members dive into a series of fun, hands-on activities where they create their own masterpieces while engaging with Timothy and each other.

“Kids have so many places to play, but adults only have nightclubs,” says Timothy. “Creative Juices and other interactive shows are the play spaces that adults need to unwind, explore who they are, and momentarily step out of reality.”

Timothy’s vision is for adults to leave the show not only with their own whimsical, fridge-worthy artworks but also with a sense of creative liberation and connection. Each audience member participates in their own unique way through sketching and creating, while Timothy guides them through the process with humour and high-energy performances. It’s an invitation to let go, laugh and create.

“I’ve always believed art should be interactive,” Timothy explains. “In Creative Juices, it’s about responding in the moment—verbally and physically. It’s a collective experience where every audience member leaves with their own story and artwork, feeling elated and connected.”

One of the standout moments of the show is the creation of our “inner demons” using UV paint—a quirky and cathartic part of the evening that lets participants channel their inner emotions into something vibrant and, well, monstrous! It’s a creative nod to the unpredictability of life and the cathartic joy of making art without rules.

“I’m excited to offer adults a chance to be silly and playful again—creating their own artwork that they’ll proudly hang on the fridge. I want people to leave Creative Juices giggling, feeling lighter, and sharing their artistic creations with friends and strangers alike,” Timothy says.
