Audition Notice: Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble

Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble (QSE) is excited to announce that auditions for their 2025 Core Ensemble, Apprentice Program and Advanced Apprentice Program will be held on the afternoons of 30 November and 1 December 2024, with callbacks 6-11pm on Monday 2 December.

APPLICATIONS

Applications must be received by 5pm on 22 November.

Applications are encouraged from indigenous artists, artists of colour, artists from CALD backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ artists, neurodiverse artists, artists with disabilities, and artists of all ages and creeds. Everyone who comes to work and play with QSE, regardless of their rank, experience or profile, can expect to work in an atmosphere of collaboration and openness.

AUDITIONS

Initial auditions will take place at the University of Queensland (St Lucia) and will consist of 15-minute slots in the following sessions, by appointment only:

  • 2-6pm Saturday November 30
  • 2-6pm Sunday December 1

Prepare two pieces from any of Shakespeare’s plays, one comic piece and one dramatic piece (not necessarily from a comedy and a tragedy/history, just one piece with a comic tone and one with a darker/heavier tone). Each piece should be between one and two minutes long, and speeches do not need to be age/gender appropriate. Choose something with which you feel a personal connection.

Callbacks will take place at the University of Queensland (St Lucia) and will consist of a group session 6-11pm on Monday December 2 that will include voice, Shakespeare, group work and improvisation. You MUST be available for the entirety of this callback to be considered for the Core Ensemble or Apprentice program.

ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP

The Advanced Apprenticeship is back for its second year in 2025.

Applicants to the Advanced Apprentice Program must have completed QSE’s Apprentice Program, ideally prior to 2024. The Advanced Apprentice program includes company and weekend training alongside the Core Ensemble and Apprentices, guaranteed involvement in the mainstage production, mentorship in an area of company operations, and specialised monthly sessions exploring the theory and practice of ensemble theatre.
