What’s On: The Cat Empire with Queensland Symphony Orchestra

The Cat Empire with Queensland Symphony Orchestra

19 September 2024

Fortitude Music Hall, Fortitude Valley

The Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) will join forces with The Cat Empire for one night only at the Fortitude Music Hall on Thursday 19 September.

The electrifying performance fuses the band’s most beloved tunes and exuberant new music with the might and majesty of the QSO in a truly immersive concert experience.

The event will include vibrant orchestral reinterpretations of The Cat Empire’s hits including Hello, How to Explain and Days Like These and a collaboration with world-class flamenco artists Richard Tedesco, Johnny Tedesco, and Chantelle Cano.

Building on its impressive legacy, lead singer Felix Riebl and keyboard player Ollie McGill are the driving forces behind the band’s fresh future, recently welcoming bassist Grace Barbe, drummer Daniel Farrugia, and percussionist Neda Rahmani into the Empire. New influences and band members will see The Cat Empire lean heavily into the vibrant worlds of Afro-Cuban, Seychellois Kreol, Brazilian and flamenco music. Combined with Riebl’s distinctive musical style, The Cat Empire creates a sound that is truly international while remaining true to the band’s unique place in the Australian musical landscape.
