What’s On: Peter Hudson exhibition, Right Place, Right Time (Mitchell Fine Art)

Right Place, Right Time

23 July – 10 August 2024

Mitchell Fine Art Gallery, Fortitude Valley

Brisbane Portrait Prize 2024 finalist Peter Hudson presents a body of en-plein air paintings and the allure of the natural landscape in his new exhibition at Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley from 23rd July.

Peter Hudson is a landscape and portrait painter and musician who draws largely on contemporary Australian history for inspiration in his art making. Regular painting trips and sketching form an integral part of his art-making process in capturing the spirit or essence of the landscape.

‘‘Everything is, in the right place at the right time. This is a gift for the landscape artist, as all the usual problems and decisions concerning design, tone, colour, what to include, what to leave out, et cetera have been taken care of,” says Hudson.

The exhibition showcases the stunning landscapes of Noosa National Park and its surrounds. Hudson cites a keen interest in Aboriginal Australia post-colonisation, and his paintings and drawings having a deep connection to country and the natural world. In response to the artist’s preference for plein air painting, the artworks lead the viewer on a journey through the landscape, highlighting the natural surrounds, the terrain, and showcasing flora and fauna that are an integral component of this natural environment.

Peter Hudson is represented in national and regional collections including the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, Parliament House in Brisbane, and the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. He is currently a finalist in the 2024 Brisbane Portrait Prize with his portrait of Nathan Shepherdson.
