Musica Viva Australia is thrilled to present the Australian debut of two of Europe’s finest young soloists in a star-studded musical partnership: 22-year-old Dutch violinist Noa Wildschut and 28-year German pianist Elisabeth Brauss.

Artistic Director Paul Kildea has described the duo as “one of the most exciting musical partnerships heard in years, hiding in plain sight in the great concert halls of Europe.”

A veteran of the international classical music scene, Wildschut made her stage debut in the main hall of Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw at the age of 7. Winning numerous prestigious awards at a young age, including first prize at the International Violin Competition Louis Spohr (aged 9) Wildschut has been heralded as “one of the musical hopes of her generation” (Anne-Sophie Mutter). She will be joined on stage by BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, Elisabeth Brauss, who has established herself as a leading international soloist. In 2021, she made her debut at the BBC Proms performing with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and has since appeared alongside the Hallé Orchestra, Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg, and Göttinger Symphonie Orchester.

Together, the pair will perform a line-up of Romantic and Impressionist works for violin and piano duo by Schumann, Debussy, Enescu, and Franck. Opening the program is Schumann’s Violin Sonata No. 1 in A Minor, an impassioned and tempestuous work written only a few years before his untimely death in an asylum at the age of 46.

Wildschut and Brauss will also premiere a new work by eclectic Melbourne-based composer May Lyon, commissioned by Musica Viva Australia specifically for this national tour. The recipient of the 2023 Noisy Women Commission by Ensemble Offspring, Lyon’s works explore a range of themes from deep human emotions to representations of nature.
