Brisbane Music Festival

Part One – October 23-29, 2023

Part Two – December 4-10, 2023

FourthWall Arts, 540 Queen Street, Brisbane City

Curated by Alex Raineri, the annual Brisbane Music Festival (BMF) is now its sixth year. Celebrating eclectic approaches to programming, the BMF is a cross-cultivation of musical offerings from the old and familiar to the vibrant and new. Primarily a classical music festival, the BMF frequently ventures into realms of jazz, pop, and experimental music. There is a significant focus on new Australian music, and incredible Australian performers.

The 2023 festival features 34 events, 40 creatives, 9 world premieres, and 7 Australian premieres. Highlights include the BMF debuts of; Australia’s leading contemporary music collective ‘Ensemble Offspring’, cabaret sensation Ali McGregor, New-York based musical legend Lisa Moore, Grammy-award winning flautist Tim Munro, one of the world’s leading guitarists Karin Schaupp, Finnish pianist Adam Herd, and leading Australian artists such as Emily Granger (harp), Lloyd Van’t Hoff (clarinet) and Stefan Cassomenos (piano). Many familiar faces will also return in 2023, including Irena Lysiuk, Katie Stenzel, Courtenay Cleary, and the festival’s Artistic Director, Alex Raineri.

This year, Brisbane Music Festival will take place in FourthWall Arts, an intimate theatre situated in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD. In a step towards accessibility, tickets for the 2023 season are significantly more affordable than in previous years, at $25 for General Admission.

Artistic Director Alex Raineri says of the 2023 program: “Continuing our mission of presenting music both old and new in equal measure, there are many exciting World and Australian premieres. There is a strong presence of music by György Ligeti (in celebration of his 100-year centenary) as well as our 2023 featured composer, Francis Poulenc. Poulenc’s music is whimsical, sentimental, gorgeously melodic, and thrillingly virtuosic. His light-hearted oeuvre resonates through the 2023 BMF season.”
