Be transported to a kingdom beneath the sea with Queensland Musical Theatre’s latest musical offering, the spellbinding aquatic adventure, The Little Mermaid – Live on Stage, accompanied by a live orchestra. Embark on an extraordinary journey with Ariel, the spirited young mermaid who yearns to explore the world above, in this rendition of Hans Christian Andersen’s cherished tale and the beloved Disney classic.
Queensland Musical Theatre has brought together a skilled team of creatives and a 60-strong cast. Local Brisbane performer, Sophie Mason, says taking on the role of Ariel is a dream come true. “It’s a joy to bring this Disney Princess to life because she is more than just a character; she’s a symbol of determination, curiosity and love,” Mason said. “The cast have had the best time creating this show, and I know people, young and old, are going to find themselves smiling the whole way through.”
With a soundtrack by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and storyline by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will reel you in with unforgettable favourites like “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl,” and “Part of Your World”. With direction by Deian Ping, musical direction by Julie Whiting, and choreography by Julianne Burke, the show promises to be splash.
“It is incredible that local performers have the opportunity to do such a classic show right here in Brisbane,” Sophie Mason said. “We really have immensely talented actors, singers, and dancers, not to mention an incredible group of musicians, which is a treat in itself.”
